Starfleet Command approved the building of shipyard. . .

Starbase Versailles

The space docks requested by the station, appropriately named Tristan and Isolde have been completed - and are fully functional and are ready to provide assistance to ships large and small, Federation or otherwise.

Tristan and Isolde are two free-standing "cages" that would self-adjust to accommodate anything from Defiant-class to Galaxy class...and a bit larger to accommodate unknown alien configurations. On board operations, security and engineering staff. Workshops, docking for worker bees, pylons for shuttlecraft and runabouts. Transporter facilities and its own power plant handling every need from replication to tractor control. Even a small computer core, connected by subspace carrier to the computers on Versailles...complete with firewalling and access control precautions.

YaDalla Colony

The colony on YaDalla, which was just beginning to flourish has suffered from disquiet in the Beta Quadrant, and as a result, is not as far along as the Federation had hoped for. The colony is still contained primarily within environmental domes - otherwise the environment is overly wet and crops do not grow well in the soggy conditions nor does it bode well for a vacation get away; it is on the other hand highly tropical with an abundant life force that's yet to be fully cataloged or categorized be it microbial or rather large. There is a colonial government with all the inherent persons in place right down to civil authorities. The station doesn't get directly involved unless something is going wrong for too long.

"I must admit I am curious, Versailles reputation is interesting, it is said the you will either love it or hate it here, that you will thrive or go insane."
 Captain Sibhar, 241102.01

"There are simply not men or materiel to carry out the job, Admiral.  While many of our enlightened contemporaries espouse that Starfleet is merely a tool for exploration, a safe harbor for scientists, researchers, and philosophers, at its core it is the only line of defense the Federation truly has.  In times of crisis we must utilize every asset ay our disposal to its fullest, and that - nothing else - is exactly what I am proposing to do."
(Commodore Veran Amar, 241010.23)

Starbase 99 "Versailles" is the first in a new class of Space Station. Consisting of a Central Hub plus two Habitat rings, it is over 3200m wide and high.

The Central Hub is restricted to Starfleet personnel only, and houses Cargo Bays, Shuttle Bays, Flight Decks, Starfleet Departments plus the Station Operations Centre ('Ops'). At the top of Central Hub is the main landing pad, where the USS Cerberus is maintained.

The surrounding Habitat Rings provide the living areas of the Starbase, including stores, bars, restaurants, recreation facilities and personnel quarters. Civilians are permitted in all areas of the Habitat Rings, except for the eight primary docking ports (one on each quarter of the Habitat Rings) which are restricted areas.
