Klael

Home System

Klae, located some 90,000 lightyears beyond the RSE border within the Delta Quad, and approx 3,000 lightyears from the Kantarians. System is a single star orbited by 7 planets, only one of which is located within the "habitable" ring of the suns perimeter. This planet is class M, with 3 other class K planets. The remaining 3 planets are (in order of distance from the star Klae): class T, class Y, class B. The original home of the Klael is the class M planet (2nd from the sun), however the Klael have thriving colonies on the 3 class K planets. They also inhabit numerous planets in surrounding systems, some thriving and almost as developed as the Klael homeworld, others more or less just starting out. Some of these colonies are also home to other sentient species (although the Klael consider them "less civilized. See Attitude below.)

Technology

Like the Kantarians, the Klael's technology level appears comparable to UFP. Their's however is closer in related function than the Kantarian's technology. It could be adapted to UFP standards, but would need modification (Think TOS era tech compared to TNG)

Attitude

Expansionist. This is a species who are constantly looking to expand their growing sphere of influence. They have contacted the Kantarians, and hold a deep animosity for that race. They also have a highly institutionalized form of slavery, whereby the "less civilized" natives of other planets the Klael have "colonized" are forced to perform the more menial and/or dangerous tasks on behalf of the Klael. Unlike the Kantarian's, the Klael are also highly militaristic in nature, while not so far as the Klingons. Their society is not dominated by the military, however, although they generally "shoot first and ask questions later".

Conclusion

These guys will oppose any interference in their society, and will do so violently. (ie passive resistance by the slaves is always met with deadly force. What's the loss of a few million "lesser beings" in the great scheme of things? and if anyone does fight back.. well the punishment is that much more severe... one 'colony' shows evidence of a civilization foreign to the Klael... eliminated because they dared fight back against their "rightful rulers") and hence will not be at all impressed with the ideas of the Federation (anti-slavery, allowing all sentient races to evolve equally). These guys really do believe in "Survival of the fittest", and will do everything to maintain their superiority over their "subjects" (and anyone else that they happen across). They will not work with the Kantarian's at all, the depth of the hatred between the two species being such that a Klael would rather watch a Kantarian starve to death than share a ration pack. (Then again, the Kantarian would rather beat the Klael's head in with a large rock and steal the ration pack anyway while the Klael is sleeping.) The Borg ran numerous 'simulations' of a war between the Klael and Kantarians, none of which was conclusive in its results. They are too evenly matched, but at least they won't join forces to eliminate any threats to either species. Like the Kantarians, the Klael know about the Borg, but were not able to completely fight them off (neither do they have "samples" like the Kantarians, although they know a lot about the Borg). However, rather than allow the Borg to assimilate their worlds (or ships, etc) the Klael will use massive thermo-nuclear devices to destroy the planet (or ship), and render it completely useless to the Borg (several systems on a path from the Klael homeworld toward Borg space will show signs of this. These planets will generally be class Y due to this destruction... although there is one asteroid belt with incredibly high radioactivity also... a former planet reduced to class I status...).
