The Black Planet - Karus

The Klael have used the Federation's waning presence to reassert dominance on weaker inhabitants of the Delta Quadrant. Having been defeated by a what it considers an inferior species, and a female one at that, the Klael retreated to their homeworld in the Klae system and have nursed their grudge. In the Klae system, fear rules. The seat of power is the Black Planet where sand like darkened midnight howls on the wind and the seismically active planet shakes from the inside out. Water is a scarce resource controlled solely by the Klael. Those who venture across the surface can die from thirst in the arid atmosphere and yet be paces away from the water that would have saved them. Emboldened by the slipping Starfleet presence, the Klael begin making forays back out of the safety of the Klae system and little by little begin to chip away and reclaim what they see as theirs...rim worlds in Cyrga's data banks send pleas for help that go unaided until there is only silence until Cyrga herself can no longer listen while worlds go silent.

Most societies, even truly primitive ones have a religion of some sort. On the Black Planet, the Kalatori  are the Religious Order. This doesn’t mean they’re kind or compassionate, more like the exact opposite. The answer only to the ruling class and even the Klael fear being summoned by them – as a summons usually means death and not always a quick one. When they’re done with you, you might wish you’d died. Next are the Kalarae  (Merchants/Bureaucrats/Intellectuals). These are the people who push papers and produce a profit that keeps the system moving. The Kalarae of all on the Black Planet are least warlike and prefer order to chaos. Lastly, there is the slave race, the Kadamitas:  (Worker Bees). These are the poor and unclassed; they do the work no one else on the planet wants to do but has to be done. The man the ships, they serve as the infantry. They build and destroy as they are told.
